Symantec Endpoint Protection backup


1. Open the Symantec Endpoint Protection manager console.
2. Login using user and password.
3. Click "Admin" on the left pane.
4. Under "tasks" click "edit backup settings" to set schdule time for backup and deal with
Backup logs.
5. If you want to run a backup click on "Backup site now" Under "tasks".
6. The backup operation saves zip file under:

c:\Program Files\Symantec\Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager\data\backup.The backup file is named <date and time>.zip
During the installation, the files backed up to the directory
c:\Program Files\Symantec\Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager\Server Private Key Backup.

Restore operation:

1. Locate the keystore file (<time>.jks) and server.xml (<time>.xml)file under
c:\Program Files\Symantec\Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager\Server Private Key Backup.

2. Open server.XML and search for a "keystorePass" line (example: keystorePass=W$5Ur76myqA1u4)
3. Copy that string to a new text file you create with the name SEPbackup.txt
4. Copy the file sylink.xml located under
C:\Program Files\Symantec\Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager\data\outbox\agent\Some_long_DirectoryName ( exp :E0DCC4EF0A0000640194A8EBA6A8601F)
c:\Program Files\Symantec\ Symantec Endpoint ProtectionManager\Server Private Key Backup\
5. open sylink.xml and copy the "DomainId" string (exp: DomainId=9urj765j3654GD409ED819B746F1) to SEPbackup.txt
6. Type the encryption password that you used when you installed the first site in SEPbackup.txt
7. Type the IP address and hostname of the computer that runs the Symantec Endpoint in SEPbackup.txt
8. Type the host name and site name of the Symantec Endpoint Protection.
9. Open Console, and click Admin. 
10. In the Admin pane, click "Servers" under "Tasks".
11. Under "View Servers", expand Local Site, and then click the computer name that identifies the local site.
12. Under "Tasks", click "Manage Server Certificate".
13. In the "Manage Server Certificate panel", check Update the Server Certificate and click Next.
14. Under "Select the type of certificate to import", check "JKS keystore" and click Next.
15. In the "JKS Keystore" panel, click Browse, locate and select your backed up as "keystore<time>.jks" file, and click OK.
16. Open SEPbackup.txt file and then select and copy the keystore password.
17. Activate the "JKS Keystore" dialog box and then paste the keystore password into the "Keystore" and "Key".
18. Click next and In the "Complete" pane , click Finish.
19. Logoff the console.
20. Restart Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager:
Start> Settings> Control Panel> Administrative Tools> Services>Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager
Right click and press stop
Right click and press start

You can restore client communications with a database backup :

1. Stop Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager service.
2. Copy the database backup file to the directory:
c:\Program Files\Symantec\Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager\data\backup.
3. Go to Start> Programs> Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager> Database Back Up and Restore.
4. Click Restore.
5. Go to Start> Programs> Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager> Management Server Configuration Wizard.
6. Check "Reconfigure the Management Server" and click Next.
7. In Server Information panel, Database Server Choice panel and Database Information panel- enter values that match previous inputs and click "finish".
8. Login to Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager Console.
9. Right-click on the groups we work with and click "Run Command on Group" > "Update Content".
