How to Compact PST and OST files.
When using POP3 mail account in outlook, data is saved to PST file.
When PST file size is over 3 Giga, working with the PST becomes slower.
Deleting items on Outlook (Deleted Items, sent items etc) is nessecary, but even when doing so, the PST file size remain the same until compacting the PST.
PST file stores your Microsoft outlook data (inbox, calandet etc) when using POP3 mail configuration, in most cases located under :
C:\Documents and Settings\your_user_login_name\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook.
OST file stores your Microsoft outlook data (inbox, calandet etc) when using Exchange cache mode mail configuration, in most cases located under the same directory as PST.
in order to get the new real size of your file you should compact the PST (Or OST) as follow:
1. Browse to : Control Panel – Mail -Data files
2. OST users (exchange 2007 cache mode aacounts) – Open Mailbox -your_name (which regards to exchange client)
3. Go to advanced and open – Offline folder file settings
4. Press on – Compact now –
5. PST users (POP3 accounts) – Open the personal folder (which regards to pop3 client)
6. Press on -compact now-
